Planning to buy an iPad because you have not found an iPad alternative as yet? Here are a few features of the much talked about Samsung Galaxy Tab that might provide you a suitable alternative.

The seven inch slate was launched on the 2nd of September in the IFA in Berlin; this Android-based tabled computer has been considered as the first real rival of the iPad by the market gurus.

The screen, display and portability

The 1024×600 resolution of the screen and the smaller display size makes it excellent reading devise.  The 7-inch touchscreen and the enhanced 16:9 TFT display with WSVGA is spectacular especially when you want to use the Tab to read eBooks and PDFs. To add to the readability factor the Android Market offers several downloadable eBook reading apps which are ideal for Tab.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab weighs less than the iPad and is much easily portable. Be warned though to hold this you need large hands.

The hardware and software

With the Android 2.2 or Froyo if you please, with Samsung User interface, and the 1GHz Hummingbird Application Processor and offers features similar to the iPad. The Samsung Galaxy Tab is suited for video calling. The Samsung Galaxy Tab has two cameras, one a primary 3 megapixel camera with LED flash that is paired with 1.3 MP front facing camera.

The Android 2.2 Froyo and the UI lets you use Adobe Flash 10.1, providing the Tab an edge over the iPad. It also lets you customize homescreens. Another feature which is exciting is the 1080p HD video recording and playback feature.

When it comes to mail, the Tab offers integrated email with Gmail and MS Exchange Active Sync. There are several other Google integrated services that you can use in the Tab which include the Google Maps, Latitude, Places and beta version of the Google Maps Navigation.
